Before there was a med spa, there was an ICU.
Tina became a registered nurse in 2013 and has only ever worked critical care, intensive care, step-down, and emergency, including travel ICU assignments from 2015 through 2022, caring for the sickest patients in the building.
That is not a decorative line in a biography. It is the reason this practice runs the way it does.
Travel nursing in particular teaches something that a single hospital never quite does. You arrive in an unfamiliar unit, with unfamiliar equipment and a team that has never met you, and you are expected to be competent on the first shift. There is no easing in. You learn to assess quickly, ask the right questions, and never assume that how it was done at the last place is how it should be done here.
Critical care adds the rest of it, and those habits are hard to unlearn. Assess before you act. Know the anatomy. Know what the medication list is telling you. Notice the thing that is starting to go wrong before it announces itself. Document what you did and why.
None of that switches off when the setting changes from an ICU to a treatment chair.
THE PREMISE
Aesthetic medicine is healthcare, not a beauty service.
It is easy to forget that. The settings are pleasant, the appointments are elective, and the marketing across this industry works hard to make it all feel like shopping.
But what happens in the treatment chair is a medical procedure. There is a needle, real anatomy, a medication with contraindications, and a patient whose history matters. Treating it as anything less is how people get hurt.
So this practice is run as a clinical one. Medical history is reviewed rather than skimmed. Assessment comes before recommendation. Consent is explained, not handed over on a clipboard. And when something is not appropriate for a patient, they are told so.
THE PATH
From bedside to building this.
After leaving traditional bedside nursing, Tina moved into medical-device work before opening her own practice.
Sunshine Spa & Aesthetics was built from nothing. Not purchased, not inherited, not a franchise. Every protocol, every consent form, every piece of the way this practice operates was built deliberately, because there was no one else to build it.
That is slower and considerably harder than buying into something that already exists. It also means nothing here happens by default. When you ask why something is done a certain way, there is an actual answer.
Covington was not chosen off a map. Tina lives here. The people who come through the door are neighbors, and there is no version of this where she treats someone poorly and drives home to a different town.

CLINICAL BACKGROUND
Why it matters who is holding the syringe.
Medical aesthetics sits on top of real anatomy, facial vasculature, nerve pathways, tissue planes, and how a given patient's medical history changes what is appropriate for them.
Nursing training is built around exactly that. Assessment before intervention. Understanding contraindications. Recognizing when something is not going the way it should, and knowing what to do about it. Critical care sharpens all of it, because in an ICU the consequences of missing something arrive quickly.
That background is why every patient here is assessed in person before anything is recommended, why medical history is genuinely reviewed, and why some patients are told a treatment is not right for them.

THE PHILOSOPHY
The goal here is never for anyone to be able to tell you had something done. It is for people to notice you look well and not know why.
Most patients here are women somewhere between forty and sixty-five who want to age well rather than look dramatically altered. That is a different request from what a lot of aesthetic marketing is built around, and it needs a different approach: treating conservatively, building over time, and being honest when a request would take someone away from looking like themselves.
It also means saying no. Not every patient is an appropriate candidate for every treatment, and not every request should be granted the day it is made. Turning someone away when treatment is not right is part of practicing ethically. It is not a failure to sell.
WORTH KNOWING
The unglamorous part.
Consent forms, protocols, standing orders, documentation, emergency procedures. Nobody chooses a practice because of its paperwork, and no one enjoys reading about it.
It gets attention here anyway. A consent form that exists because it was copied from another clinic does not protect anyone, not the patient, not the provider, not the practice. So the documents at Sunshine Spa & Aesthetics are worked through against actual Tennessee requirements rather than borrowed and filed.
You will probably never notice this. That is rather the point.
